Itinerary

Day 1 – Apostle Islands – Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center – Legendary Waters Casino Hotel
Off the coast of Lake Superior, on the tip of Wisconsin’s Bayfield Peninsula, lies a group of 22 island jewels known as the Apostle Islands and is home to stunning rock formations and six historic lighthouses.

Arriving in scenic Northern Wisconsin, your first stop today is the Northern Great Lakes Visitors Center. This beautiful visitor center is a vibrant place to learn about the Lake Superior region. You’ll find interactive exhibits, two movie theaters, a five-story observation tower, boardwalks and interpretive trails, an art gallery, Wisconsin Historical Society regional archives, a gift store, and much, much more!

Check into the Legendary Waters Casino Hotel for three night stay. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant. (D)

Day 2 – Ferry to Madeline Island & Guided Touring
This morning board the ferry to Madeline Island, one of the Apostle Islands. The journey across Lake Superior provides spectacular views of the Lake itself and several of the 22 Apostle Islands. Once on the Island, an experienced guide takes your group on a narrated tour showcasing the natural beauty as well as hometown cultural events, which celebrate the Island’s rich history. You’ll find a grand display of wildflowers in May and June. July and August feature the fruits in season and events such as concerts and local fish boils. September and October offer panoramic fall colors. At any time of the year, you’ll enjoy the ever-changing vista of Lake Superior’s islands, water, and sky.

Lunch is included today at one of the island’s local pubs.

Discover 300 years of colorful Island history at the Madeline Island Museum. Beginning with the first recorded visits by French voyageurs and early fur traders to the advent of summer cottagers who made the island their summer home, the Museum tells the whole story. Beautiful examples of Chippewa beadwork and other unique artifacts of a bygone era help you discover and appreciate the lifestyles of the first Island residents.

Enjoy some free time this afternoon to explore the island on your own. Browse through the historic Woods Hall Craft Shop and other unique gift shops or take a relaxing stroll down one of the sandy beaches.

Return on the ferry to the mainland and your hotel. Enjoy a free evening on your own at the hotel and casino. Dinner is on your on this evening. (B,L)

Day 3 – Apostle Island Cruise – Victorian Luncheon – Bayfield – Native American Dance
This morning after breakfast, take a cruise through the Apostle Islands viewing two lighthouses, a brownstone quarry site, a historic fishing camp, and around Devils Island to view the spectacular sea caves. On this narrated, scenic tour, you’ll pass extraordinary natural scenery, beautiful historic Raspberry and Devils Island Lighthouses, standing rocks, extensive sea caves, and marine wildlife. Learn the rich history of centuries of human interaction with Wisconsin’s “Crown Jewels” on majestic Lake Superior.

Next, you enjoy a 3-Course Victorian Luncheon at the Landmark Restaurant at Old Rittenhouse Inn.

Following lunch, meet your local guide for a tour of the Bayfield area. This charming shoreline village has been named “Best Little Town in the Midwest.” This tour will also include a stop at one of the area’s local farms.  You will also have some free time to explore the village on your own.

Returning to the hotel this evening, you enjoy a Native American Dance Show. A local dance troupe will showcase traditional dances to the drumming of the Buffalo Bay Drummers. (B,L)

Day 4 – Wisconsin Concrete Park – Depart for Home
After breakfast this morning, you depart the hotel for one last stop at the Wisconsin Concrete Park. The Wisconsin Concrete Park is an outdoor museum with 237 embellished concrete and mixed media sculptures built between 1948 and 1964 by Fred Smith, a retired lumberjack and self-taught artist and musician. Installed throughout Smith’s northwoods property in Phillips, WI, the site is a historical panorama of life-size and larger-than-life sculptures depicting people, animals, and events from local, regional and national history, from local lore, and from Smith’s expansive imagination.
