Itinerary
Day 1 – Walnut Creek, OH
Today, travel takes you to Ohio Amish Country. Arrive in Walnut Creek, OH where you enjoy a two night stay at a local hotel. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant. (D)
Day 2 – Full Day Guided Amish Tour – Lamp & Light Candle Company – Backroads Tour – Victorian House Museum – Troyer’s Sweet Shoppe – Amish Wedding Feast Dinner
This morning following breakfast, meet your local guide for a full day Amish tour. Start with a visit to Lamp and Light Candle Company, a family owned and run by Amish sisters. This candle company just outside Walnut Creek hand-pours and hand-scents each and every candle that they sell. Today, you will get to “top off” a pie candle with whip cream and berries and take it home with you.
Next, travel down the backroads of Holmes County. The landscape is dotted with simple yet beautiful farms and fields, and the pace of life seems to slow down as you make your way through the countryside. The simplicity and functionality of their buildings are a testament to their devotion to tradition and their commitment to living off the land.
Then enjoy some free time for shopping and lunch on your own in Berlin.
The afternoon features a visit to the historic Millersburg Victorian mansion built around the turn of the 20th century and featured on HGTV’s Victorian America. Enjoy a tour of the mansion filled with history and possibly ghosts! The home is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Also included this afternoon is a stop at Troyer’s Sweet Shoppe. If there is one homemade candy that everyone loves, it’s homemade buckeyes. Share in Troyer’s family tradition and enjoy the delicious taste of Grandma’s recipe. You will get to dip six buckeyes for yourself to take with you.
Finally, this evening you will enjoy a “wedding feast” with an Amish family. The dining room is set up like an Amish wedding reception, pick three couples to sit at the head table. During the celebration you will learn more about the Amish customs and traditions. (B, D)
Day 3 – Hershberger Bakery & Farmers Market – Depart for Home
This morning, you will visit Hershberger Bakery & Farmers Market, which is their largest Amish family-owned bakery, with the third generation helping out. You will find a full line of baked goods, also local grown produce in the season.
Walk out to the petting zoo where you get to pet Big King, the largest registered Belgium horse in Ohio. You will enjoy shopping at the farm store where they have locally made items. Following your visit, depart for home. (B)
