Itinerary

Day 1 – Harley Davidson Factory – Pleasant Prairie, WI – Arrive in Milwaukee, WI to tour the Harley-Davidson Factory in Menomonee Falls, WI.  This tour offers a video and insight into machining areas contributing to the assembly of H-D engines and transmissions.

Next, you head to Pleasant Prairie, WI where you check into your hotel for the night. Dinner is on your own this evening.  Enjoy dinner on your own at the onsite restaurant or take the hotel shuttle to the Premium Outlet Mall for shopping & dining at the Food Court.

Day 2 – The Great Lakes Naval Station – Shipshewanna, IN – Blue Gate Inn Dinner & Show – This morning, visit the Naval Station Great Lakes (NAVSTA Great Lakes), home of the United States Navy’s only boot camp, located near North Chicago, in Lake County, Illinois. Important tenant commands include the Recruit Training Command, Training Support Center and Navy Recruiting District Chicago. Naval Station Great Lakes is the largest military installation in Illinois and the largest training station in the Navy.

Continue travel to Shipshewanna, IN where this evening you enjoy dinner and a show at the Blue Gate Theatre. Family-friendly entertainment and family-style dining come together for an exceptional night of fun. Laugh, cry and sing along with the Blue Gate’s line-up of outstanding entertainment including Broadway Style Plays, musicals, Country, Comedy, and more (B,D)

Day 3 – Tour of Jayco RV – Amish Housewives Tour – Bison Ranch & Chuckwagon Dinner – After breakfast, tour Jayco RV Factory.  Go behind the scenes to learn how Jayco luxury fifth wheels and motorized products are brought to life. Your tour guide will walk you through an operational manufacturing facility and will explain how the RVs are built.

Then meet your guide and begin your “Real Housewives of Amish Country” full day tour. Forget reality TV! Instead meet the real housewives and learn how these ladies do household chores without electrical appliances and run their businesses without modern technology. Enjoy a cinnamon roll demo with Elaine or Mary Lou. Visit Carolyn’s home for a haystack lunch and peanut butter crumb pie making demo. Chat with a basket weaver about her thriving business. Meet an Amish school teacher and find out how she manages her classes in a one room school. Everyone will get an after school treat to take home — a whoopee pie!

Following your morning of sightseeing, you enjoy one of those famous Amish Family-Style luncheons.

Next, you head to Cook’s Bison Ranch. Here you learn the industry of raising, feeding and managing this wild animal. You’ll take a hay-wagon ride into the pasture where you have a chance to hand feed the great American Bison in its own habitat. A Chuckwagon dinner is also included here with your visit. (B,L,D) 

Day 4 – Dearborn, MI – Ford Rouge Factory – Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation – Today, travel to Dearborn, MI where you enjoy the Ford Rouge Factory Tour.  Pop open the hood on game-changing technology, sustainable design and sheer American grit at America’s greatest manufacturing experience. Get an inside look at the making of America’s most iconic truck, the Ford F-150, and immerse yourself in modern manufacturing’s most progressive concepts. Experience the awe-inspiring scale of a real factory floor as you rev up your inner engineer.

Today will also include a visit to the Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation. Step into a world where past innovations fuel the imagination of generations to come.  You’ll discover America – its culture, inventions, people and can-do spirit – and hundreds of hands-on ways to explore it, enjoy it and be inspired by it.

You then check into the Dearborn Inn for the night.  Built in 1931 on the former grounds of the Ford Motor Company, The Dearborn Inn, A Marriott Hotel is a historic destination amid celebrated attractions. Surrounded by 23 lush landscaped acres, this stately hotel inspires effortless relaxation with elegant rooms Dinner is on your own this evening, but the hotel offers two restaurants from which you can choose from. Day 5 – Spangler Candy Company – Auburn Cord Duesenburg Auto Museum – National Automotive & Truck Museum – This morning, you will travel to Bryan, OH to visit the Spangler Candy Company Store & Museum.  Spangler Candy Company is a family-owned company making candy since 1906. Products include lollipops, candy canes, and marshmallow candies. Sit in the big-screen theater and experience close up the sights, sounds, and smells of Spangler candy production, intertwined with a delightful story.

Lunch is then included today at the Four Seasons Diner.

This afternoon you stop in Auburn, IN at visit the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum where the world’s finest cars of yesteryear live today! Over 120 classic, antique, vintage and special interest cars are displayed with other automotive related exhibits on three floors.  The Museum is located in the original 1930s national headquarters of the legendary Auburn Automobile Company.

You also visit the National Automotive & Truck Museum.  NATM is recognized as one of America’s finest vehicle museums and each year the museum welcomes thousands of visitors from all parts of the world. The Service and New Parts Building and the L-29 Cord Building, which were declared a National Historic Landmark in 2005. These original factory buildings represent over 130 years of transportation manufacturing. This museum is located behind the Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum.

Continue travel to Porter, IN for an overnight stay.  Dinner is on your own this evening. (B,L)

Day 6 – Moline, IL – John Deer Pavilion – Dinner Cruise on Celebration Belle – Depart this morning for Moline, IL to visit The John Deere Pavilion. The pavilion serves as the official visitor center for John Deere, whose world headquarters are located a few blocks away. Climb into the cab. Sit in the driver’s seat. And test your skills in state-of-the-art simulators. Explore some of the biggest John Deere machines — from combines and dozers, to excavators and swing machines — and learn how they change lives around the world. At the John Deere Pavilion, you get behind the wheel of innovation!

Then check into the Stoney Creek Hotel, located on the scenic banks of the Mississippi River, for the night. 

This evening, enjoy a Dinner Cruise on the Celebration Belle. Cruise down the mighty Mississippi River, while enjoying a fabulous dinner. While dinner is a big part of this cruise, it doesn’t end there. After dinner, relax or dance to the sounds of the Celebration River Cruises band performing a wide variety of music from yesterday and today…and they take requests! (B,D)

Day 7 – National Mississippi River Museum – Ulysses S Grant Home – Galena, IL – Travel today to Dubuque, IA to visit the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium. Explore the history, culture, and wildlife along America’s rivers!  Enjoy dynamic aquariums and historical exhibits, a boatyard, the William M. Black dredge boat, and wetland area along the 14-acre campus. Up close and personal experiences with live animals take place daily, including Creature Features and various touch tanks.

Lunch is included today at Catfish Charlie’s, a laid-back seafood spot with views of the Mississippi River.

This afternoon, you travel to Galena, IL.  Tour the Ulysses S Grant Home. On Aug. 18, 1865, Galena celebrated the return of its Civil War hero Gen. Ulysses S. Grant. Following a jubilant procession with much flag waving and speeches, a group of Galena citizens presented the General with a handsome furnished house on Bouthillier Street. It was opened to the public in 1904, & the furnishings are original. The house is now managed by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency as the U.S. Grant Home State Historic Site.

Enjoy some free time to explore the shops of downtown Galena.  Then check into the Desoto House Hotel, Illinois’ oldest operating hotel, for the night.  The DeSoto House encompasses a four-story atrium for Courtyard dining serving breakfast, lunch and private banquets as well as the Generals’  restaurant named in honor of Galena’s nine Civil War Generals which offers a lounge and dining rooms amidst the atmosphere of the original brick walls and beamed ceilings. Green Street Tavern, the third dining area, in its 1883 location is the perfect place to sit and watch Main Street.

This evening dinner is included at The Desoto House Hotel at The General’s Restaurant named in honor of Galena’s Nine Civil War Generals. (B,L,D)

Day 8 – Galena Historical Society Museum – Depart for Home – After breakfast this morning, you will learn of Galena’s unique mining history and Civil War culture at the Galena History Museum. Step back in time and explore Galena’s past with the ghosts of Grant hologram, detailed Civil War exhibits and an 1830’s mine shaft.

Enjoy the historical museum setting inside the ambiance of 19th-century surroundings. While there, visit the Old Blacksmith Shop, filled with tools and equipment from its 100 year history. After tour, lunch on own in downtown Galena.  Then you will depart for home. (B)
